Conference Call Decisions
Equivalent single axle loads
Smimce
BT: Axle loads
RT: Traffic equivalence factor

This important computational concept in pavement design has been in the literature for forty years

and there are 140 records in TRIS with this term applied. A suggested NOTN would be Smimc and an RT2 to "Traffic equivalence

factor" would be in order if this term entered the TRT. For discussion see the Handbook of Highway Engineering (CRC Press :

   2006) section 9.3.3.

ST: Approve term.  See also section 8.5.2 in the Handbook of Highway Engineering.  (Whether to use singular vs. plural is a puzzle, but plural is consistent with our rules.)

AE: Approve

OK
Integrated corridor management
Dcmthcl
BT: Highway traffic control systems

Michael Kleiber* (see note below table)

PRB Add ICM acronym as cross-reference via thesis usage:

Quayle, Shaun Michael, Integrated Corridor Management, 2006. [...] within the context of Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) under a [...]
AE: Approve
BP: Approve Integrated corridor management as pt.  However, in TRIS ICM also is used for Integrated coastal management; Integrated corridor mobility; and Integrated climate model would not make ICM a non-preferred term.
ST:  Why not Corridor management or Corridor management systems?  There are about as many titles with the simpler phrase.  We should not add acronyms; their meanings can be looked up elsewhere.
KL: Approve. Agree with not including acronyms. There should be a RT Intelligent transportation systems.
NTL will review "corridor management" as a preferred TRT term with RT of Intelligent Transportation Systems; will not add Integrated Corridor Management at this time
Natural gas vehicles
Qbddpn
BT: Vehicles by motive power
Michael Kleiber* (see note below table)
PRB Again add acronym via Ian J. Walker, Natural gas vehicles (NGV) - research and development, 1991.
AE: Approve with changes: Motive Power what is that? Can we have clearer language in the broader term?
How about as broader Term 'Vehicles by Fuel or Alternative Fuel Type'  Eletricitiy is considered an Alternative Fuel Type
ST:  Approve term.  We should not add acronyms.
KL: Approve. Agree with ST on excluding acronyms. Agree with AE on BT, but the term in the TRT is "Alternate fuels". Perhaps it's time to revisit that term?

OK -- no NGV to be added as NPT
Roadside surveys
Bthxr
BT: Traffic surveys
RT Surveys and Condition surveys and Market surveys
Michael Kleiber* (see note below table)

Notation should be Bthxr. RT2 associations should be created between the

term "Surveys" and "Traffic surveys", "Travel surveys", "Condition surveys" and "Market surveys".

AE: PARK: What is the definition of Roadside Surveys? At first glance Roadside surveys are more related to Geodetic Surveys than Market or Traffic Surveys? As a member of our WSDOT's Roadside Feature Inventory Project Team, I am familiar with WSDOT's concept of Roadside Surveys. It is not related to Traffic Surveys or Market Surveys.
In the world of roads, Survey is an engineering and design term.
The term "Surveys" may be a candidate for parenthetical ie Surveys (Land), Surveys (Review)
BP:  I agree with Andy many of the records in TRIS on roadside surveys deal with alcohol use of drunk driving - needs to be defined I don't think it should be under traffic surveys.
ST:  Do not approve.  Could roadside be post-coordinated with the type or intent of survey?
KL: Agree with ST. Decline and post-coordinate.
DO NOT ADD-- too generic a term
Steel bridges
Pdybmmms
BT: Metal bridges
Michael Kleiber* (see note below table)
AE:Approve with Changes: Would rather see Broader Term as 'Bridges By Material Type' than Metal Bridges
ST: Approve term. Agree with Andy that BT should be Pdybmm.
KL: Approve.
ADD
Structural health monitoring
Geu
BT: Structural analysis
Michael Kleiber* (see note below table)
ST: I'm ambivalent. Authors are using the term in titles, but indexers could easily post-coordinate the terms Monitoring (Dmbm) and Structural deterioration and defects (Pt).
KL: Agree with ST. Indexers should post-coordinate.
AE: Approve
PRB: Approve. This is not only an LCSH, there's a huge body of usage, not the least of which is a journal called 'Structural health monitoring.'
Andy and NTL will conduct futher research for 2010 Q1; specifically in the inspection vs anaylsis point

*NOTE: terms proposed by column may be inaccurate as the last person to edit an item in TRIS system is listed as person who porposed the term. This will be corrected in future quarterly reviews.
