May 2010 (Q2) Revised Terms

Preferred Term
Notation: Pmptmc
BT: Transmission lines

NTL Comments: Based on Q1 2010 committee conference call, REVISED term and moved to modally agnostic location in TRT
MK Comments: The term “Contact wire” already exists in the TRT. It is in the singular to agree with all other “wire” headings also in the singular and follows LC and other practice of using the singular form. It is currently located as an NT of “Railroad facilities” and that is an appropriate place for the term along with other rail headings.

Discussion:
Q1 2010 discussion (in discussion of these terms "Overhead line equipment" and "overhead power supply")

BP: need to add definition what do we do with non-preferred term trolley wire.  Should it be wire or wires.
AE: Should follow the ANSI/NISO guideline for Controlled Vocabularies.  The guideline states that if the term is countable then it should be plural. Is it countable?

Committee Consensus:
TEMP PARK -- suggest a definition; removing reference to speed and add overhead as discussed on the call; OK with notation, just need an approved definltion in Q3 2010 before we add to TRT.

Nonprefered Term
USE Culvert baffles

NTL Comments:
MK Comments:

Discussion:
AE: Terms are not semantically equivalent.  Culvert Inlets/Outlets are the openings of the culvert structure. Inlet or outlet is determined by the direction of flow through the structure . Baffles are structures on the bottom of the culvert to control the flow through the culvert and assist with fish passage

Committee Consensus:
These terms will remain the sane and NOT BE REVISED. Culvert baffles is being considered as a PT under Parts of culverts along with this term. Culvert inlets, outlets and baffles are three different parts of culverts.

Nonprefered Term
USE Culvert baffles

MK Comments:

Discussion:
AE: See comment above

Committee Consensus:
