May 2010 (Q2) Parked Terms

NTL comments: lack of literary warrant; however data and data as an asset to manage is emerging field of interest in transportation; facet X
MK Comments:

Discussion:
AE: Keep it PARKED. There is alot of discussion of this term outside of transportation. However, it should be considered in the redevelopment of facet X.

Committee Consensus:
PARK for Facet X discussion/review; may also consider the term "aggregate data"

NTL Comments: Policy issue for maritime terms; not enough literary warrant in Q1 or Q2; NTL inadvertently suggested adding in Q1 2010; although found in TRIS 391, not a lot of usage in other databases AND "Fluid resistance" is not necessarily synonymous with "Hull Resistance"
MK Comments: Heading has been used 391 times as index term in TRIS and is still a valid heading. At the very least it needs to be a UF for “Fluid resistance” (Smdg) defined as: The force that impedes the motion of an object through a fluid.  Also called drag.

Discussion:
AE: I agree with the Q1 discussion on this term. However, we should do further analysis for a "Marine Facet" I would not call it solely Naval Engineering although Naval Engineering  could be a sub-facet. Our Ferries Division had a Corporate Information Model done many years ago that could help inform a new facet like this.

Committee Consensus:\

DECLINE

NTL Comments:
MK Comments: Already used 49 times in TRIS (23 since 2008) as index term and of continued interest. See LCSH 85064517

Discussion:
AE: DECLINE not enough literary warrant.

Committee Consensus:
TEMP PARK -- "foreign origin" or "country of origin" is another term to look at in terms of people, not equipment; look at Census and DHS uses (decision made because 12 titles already in TRIS for 2010 (as of 9 June 2010)

NTL Comments: Policy issue for maritime terms; naval architecture and marine engineering facets need fleshing out
MK Comments: See LCSH 85121535. Used as index term in TRIS 327 times. A useful naval architecture term. Needed.

Discussion:
AE: See comment under Hull resistance. Our Ferries Division Librarians may have interest in helping with something like this.

Committee Consensus:
DECLINE; AE will be involved in the process (WSDOT) and new TRB Info Manager

NTL Comments:
MK Comments:

Discussion:
AE: I think this term needs to be watched. More of the State DOTs are using social media to reach consumers.
This term is akin to a content type metadata element where the values might be twitter, facebook, youtube, etc.

Committee Consensus:
PARK
