2.
New Preferred Term: Air ambulance services
Notation:Hpef
Facet: H: Safety and security
BT: Emergency medical services

Discussion:

PRB This term comes from the periodical "Air Beat" that we've (Northwestern) begun to contribute to TRIS. There should be little usage in TRIS so far, but many hundreds of records to come.
Usage:
---Alberta's air-ambulance service saves lives when minutes matter most.
---SOS Air Rescue Africa / Morné Booij-Liewes. Subtitle: Morné Booij-Liewes reports on the round-the-clock air ambulance service which is setting new standards.
---DGAC tests satnav route for helo air ambulance service / by Thierry Dubois.

ST:  Agree
SP:  Agree
AE: Agree.

3.
New Preferred Term: Dowel bar retrofit
Notation:Fmuhpd
Facet:F: Construction and maintenance
BT: Pavement maintenance

Discussion:

ST:  Agree
SP:  Agree
AE: Agree

4.
New Preferred Term: End result specifications
Notation: Xxse
Facet: X: Information organization
BT: Performance based specifications

Discussion:

ST:  Kleiber comments?
AE: Disagee on placement. Semantically these are both different specification types End Result Spec is not a Performance Based Spec.  See the link in SP's. End-result Specification is on the same semantic level as Performance-based specifications. They are both types of Transportation Construction Specifications. Would suggest new preferred term or node label of Construction Specifications with both Performance-based specs and End-result specs as Narrow Terms.

5.
New Preferred Term: Flashing beacons
Notation: Dcnspbf
Facet: D: Communication and control
BT: Highway beacons

Discussion:

ST:  Agree
SP:  Agree
AE: Agree

6.
New Preferred Term:Geohazards
Notation: Jbgc
Facet: J: Environment
BT: Geological events

Discussion:

ST:  Disagree.  Let's just call them earthquakes, etc.
SP:  Disagree.  Ditto.
AE: Disagree. Geohazards cover more than geological events. A geological event is a geohazard not the other way around.
See www<dot>geohazards<dot>buffalo<dot>edu and <geohazards.cr.usgs.gov>

7:
New Preferred Term: Independent assurance
Notation: Cadi
Facet: C: Management and organization
BT: Auditing

ST:  Disagree.  I need to know how I would distinguish this from Auditing.
SP:  Agree, but am somewhat ambivalent about this. My take is that auditing can be a component of independent assurance (thus the BT). Also, independent assurance is frequently used in state DOT language.
AE: Agree. I worked for one of the big 5 accounting firms for 6 years. Independent Assurance is a type of Auditing. It is the process of a person independent to the the activity validating the acitvity. In materials testing it would be an independent body validating the results of a materials test. It is not as detailed as an audit and more detailed than a review. I also confirmed this with our internal audit office.
