August 2009 (Q3) TRT Non-Preferred Terms for Review and Discussion

Proposed Term NTL Recommendation Term Source Relationship Placement NTL Post-Research Discussion  Notes Michael Kleiber Comments TRT Subcommittee Comments TRT Subcommittee Conference Call Decisions
Comparison studies Add to TRT Nov. 08 preferred terms list Non Preferred Term  USE Evaluation and Assessment   A better NPT might be "Alternatives analysis". Suggest leaving a TRIS UT

AE: Agree. There are 156 results in Google  Transporation Meta Co-op. Should consider "Alternatives analysis" as NPT or PT Google TMC has 967 results.

ST:  Agree

SP: Agree, & yes, "Alternatives analysis" is better as NPT

"Comparison studies" and "Alternatives analysis" will both be added as NPT for Evaluation and Assessment
Data envelopment analysis Add to TRT Oct. 08 new uncontrolled term list Non Preferred Term  USE Multiple criteria decision making   "Should not be made a NPT to Multiple criteria decision making. DEA is a type of nonparametric analysis and if it were to be a NPT to MCDM, it would be lost. Leave it as a UF or make TRT term. Used quite a bit in TRIS."

AE: Disagree.  Google TMC only 99 hits. NNot sure enough warrant for PT.

ST:  Disagree

SP: No opinion

Do Not Add
Middle-aged adults Add to TRT Originally proposed as 'Middle-aged persons' in November 2008 Non Preferred Term  USE Adults   No comment from Mr. Kleiber

 AE: Agree

BP I don't have strong feelings on this but am not sure it is necessary - not frequently used in TRIS.

ST:  No opinion.  FYI, Medline uses these definitions: Adolescent: 13-18; Adult: 19-44; Middle Aged: 45-64; Middle Aged + Aged: 45+ years; Aged: 65+ years; 80 and over 80+ years

PsycINFO uses these definitions: Adolescence (13-17 yrs); Yong adulthood (18-29 yrs);Thirties (30-39 years); Mmiddle age (40-64 yrs); Aged (65 yrs and older); Very old (85 yrs and older)

SP: Term not needed

Temporarily Parked: NTL will seek expert review and suggest using an established age-range delimitations from medicine or psychology for Q4 2009 Term cycle
Structural failures Add to TRT Oct. 08 New uncontrolled terms list  Non Preferred Term (NPT) USE Structural Deterioration and Defects   "Should not be made a NPT to Deterioration and defects. Either leave as UT or add at TRT Term. 311 hits in TRIS. Belongs in notation: Ge...."

AE: Disagree. Should be considered as PT. 357 hits in Google TMC

BP I would prefer this be a preferred term,

ST:  Okay to add as PT, but maybe in the S facet rather than in the G facet.  See Failure, Smf.

SP: Agree w/ST

Make Preferred: NTL will review for Q4 2009 Term cycle PT
